The Ministry of Industry and Trade is finalizing a new feed-in tariff scheme for solar power

That was the affirmation of Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai at the regular Government Press Conference in July 2019 which took place on August 1, 2019 in Hanoi.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai responded to the press at the regular Government Press Conference in July 2019

In face of questions regarding the preferential feed-in tariff of 9.35 Uscent/kWh applicable for solar power plants that has expired after the deadline on June 30, 2019 for more than a month, but so far no specific decision has been made on new applicable feed-in tariff, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said: In execution of directions of the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has directed relevant agencies and Vietnam Electricity to coordinate with experts, scientists and local authorities to propose a general scenario for solar power development after June 30, 2019.

On July 31, 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Trade submitted a report to the Standing Committee of the Government and recommended a new scheme in which feed-in tariff for solar power will not be a single one but in multiple rates (because solar radiations vary in different regions). The deadline for the Ministry of Industry and Trade to complete and submit the new feed-in tariff scheme for solar power is September 15, 2019.

At present, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is revising its proposed scheme in compliance with instructions of the Standing Committee of the Government. After receiving official opinions from the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will widely announce this feed-in tariff scheme for solar power to investors, businesses and people.
