Vietnam and Japan enhance energy cooperation

This is one of the important issues at the talks between the Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam Tran Tuan Anh and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) Hiroshige Seko.

The talks were an important opportunity for the two ministries to review implementation status of the agreed cooperation programs at the second session of the Vietnam - Japan Joint Committee on Industry, Trade and Energy held in June 2017.

At the talks, the two ministers shared common perspectives on the importance of Vietnam - Japan energy cooperation in the medium and long terms.

Minister Tran Tuan Anh highly appreciated the proposal of Minister Seko at the second session of the Joint Committee in Tokyo (Japan) in June 2017 on developing strategic energy collaboration between the two ministries to identify cooperation priorities in line with the interests of both countries.

Minister Tran Tuan Anh suggested that Japan should foster cooperation in the energy sector, promoting investments in new energy cooperation fields, including gas fueled, renewable energy projects and cooperation in environmental protection in the energy field.

Minister Seko highly valued and fully agreed with the opinions and directions of Minister Tran Tuan Anh on the bilateral cooperation. On this occasion, the two Ministers signed a letter of intent on cooperation in supporting Vietnam in a number of areas of interests, including supporting, automobile, energy, food processing industries, institutional capacity building to assist Vietnam to effectively implement the regional and global economic integration.
