On June 22nd, in Hanoi, the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) and the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) held a meeting to discuss the implementation of power supply projects in Bac Ninh province.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thien – General Director of EVNNPC and Mr. Hoang Xuan Khoi – Acting General Director of EVNNPT co-chaired the meeting.

Currently, the power transmission grid in Bac Ninh province is supplied by 7 220-500kV substations with a total transformer capacity of 5,050MVA. In addition, Bac Ninh also receives power from interconnected 110-220-500kV circuits with Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Hung Yen, Hanoi, and Hai Phong provinces.

By June 2026, Bac Ninh province's peak power capacity will reach 3,230MW (as of 2 PM on May 27, 2026), an increase of 22.5% compared to that of the same period and a 12.6% increase compared to the peak capacity in 2025. During hot weather, most substations in Bac Ninh province are under high load and are at risk of overloading if the hot weather persists.

On EVNNPT's part, during the 2021-2025 period, it invested in and put into operation 6 new transmission grid projects (installing the second transformer at Quang Chau 220kV Substation; increasing the load capacity of the Pha Lai - Bac Ninh and Pha Lai - Hiep Hoa 220kV lines; increasing the load capacity of the  Thai Nguyen - Bac Giang 220kV line; Son Dong 220kV Substation and connection; Bac Giang - Lang Son 220kV line; and installing the second circuit of the Bac Giang - Lang Son 220kV line).

Currently, EVNNPT is also implementing the investment and construction of 20 power line and substation projects.

For the 110kV power grid, the Northern Power Corporation has completed 33 projects in Bac Ninh province during the 2021-2025 period and plans to implement 32 projects during the 2026-2030 period.

In the coming period, Bac Ninh province is focusing on attracting investors to new industrial parks, expanded industrial parks, logistics projects, data centers, electronics and semiconductor industries, and especially the Gia Binh airport area; while striving to become a centrally-governed city before 2030. Therefore, the projected electricity demand is very high: peak capacity reaching 4,200MW, and commercial power output reaching 22.7 billion kWh in 2023 (compared to 16.6 billion kWh in 2015).

Several transmission projects crucial to ensuring power supply to this locality need to be completed soon, including: the Bac Ninh 500kV substation, the Bac Ninh 5 220kV substation, the Yen Dung 220kV substation, and the connecting lines between these substations. EVNNPC also recommended that EVNNPT increase capacity and install additional transformers at existing 220kV substations.

The meeting reached consensus on several important points aimed at strengthening coordination between EVNNPC and EVNNPT in the investment and construction of power grid projects serving the power supply for Bac Ninh province.
