EVNSPC commences construction of Phu Quoc 220kV substation

On the morning of December 20, at the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC), in collaboration with the People's Committee of An Giang Province, held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Phu Quoc 220kV substation. The project commemorates the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party and the 71st anniversary of Vietnam's Electricity Traditional Day (December 21, 1954 – December 21, 2025). This is a critical energy infrastructure project vital for the sustainable growth of the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone and An Giang Province. Furthermore, it ensures a stable power supply in preparation for the 2027 APEC Summit.

Representing EVNSPC were Mr. Le Van Trang – Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors; Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Duc – Member of the Board of Directors and General Director; along with other Board Members, Vice General Directors, the Chief Accountant, and heads of specialized departments. Also in attendance were leaders from member units, including An Giang Power Company, the Southern Power Projects Management Board, and the Southern Power Consulting Company.

The ceremony also welcomed leaders from consulting, supervision, and construction partners, including: Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 3 (PECC3), AIT Corp (Information Technology Application and Development JSC), and Thai Duong Electric Construction Co., Ltd.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the Phu Quoc 220kV substation is a vivid testament to the determination and commitment of the power sector and An Giang Province in investing in strategic infrastructure development. By using energy infrastructure as the foundation for rapid and sustainable socio-economic development, this project contributes to realizing the ambition of elevating Phu Quoc to regional and international levels, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong emphasized.

The Phu Quoc 220kV substation has a total investment of VND 877.61 billion. It is designed with synchronized and modern infrastructure, meeting both national and international technical standards for reliability, operational safety, and urban aesthetics. Once completed, the project will ensure a safe, continuous, and stable power supply for the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone. It will support socio-economic development, particularly high-quality tourism, services, and smart urban areas; strengthen power capacity for national defense and security tasks to protect maritime sovereignty; and meet the requirements for absolute power safety for important foreign affairs events, especially APEC 2027.

"The Corporation commits to strictly complying with legal regulations on investment, construction, the environment, and labor safety. We will mobilize the best resources, select capable and experienced contractors, and strengthen close coordination with central ministries, agencies, and the authorities of Kien Giang Province and Phu Quoc City, with a firm determination to complete the project on schedule," stated Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Duc.

The leadership of EVNSPC hopes to continue receiving the guidance, support, and favorable conditions from leaders at all levels, along with the active coordination of local authorities and the consensus of the local people, to ensure the project is implemented smoothly, safely, and successfully.

Phu Quoc 220kV substation project scale

- Substation component: Total capacity of 3x250MVA. In this phase, two 220kV transformers (2x250MVA) will be installed first. Land is reserved for the future installation of a third 250MVA transformer.

- Connection lines:  Includes 2.65km of underground cable (double-circuit) and 15.5km of overhead transmission lines.

- Total investment cost:  VND 877,61 billion.
