Hanoi: Power consumption surges, peak load hits highest level in history
17:40, 30/07/2025
According to the Hanoi Power Corporation (EVNHANOI), the peak capacity of the city's entire power system reached an all-time high of 5,608.6MW at 13:42 on July 30, 2025.
Between July 27 and July 29, Hanoi's electricity consumption surged by nearly 40%, from 79.960 million kWh to 108.669 million kWh - marking a record-breaking increase. The group of household customers (households) accounts for the largest proportion of consumption, showing the clear impact of weather on electricity usage habits in daily life.
Hanoi has experienced the hottest days of the year, causing the electricity demand, especially for cooling devices, to skyrocket. With outdoor temperatures consistently ranging from 37 to 39°C, appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and electric fans have had to operate more intensively to maintain performance. As a result, electricity consumption has increased despite no change in usage duration.

Electricity consumption in the capital having reached its highest level in history
EVNHANOI encourages customers, offices, and production facilities to practice economical and efficient electricity usage by switching off non-essential electrical devices and minimizing the use of high-power equipment during peak hours, from 12:00 to 15:00 and from 22:00 to 24:00 each day.
Pay attention to the reasonable use of air conditioners (set at 26-27°C or higher, use in combination with fans). In addition, using energy-efficient appliances with energy-saving labels and performing regular maintenance on air conditioners and refrigerators are also effective ways to reduce electricity consumption.
In particular, EVNHANOI recommends that people proactively monitor their family's daily electricity consumption through the EVNHANOI App or the website evnhanoi.vn to check meter readings, compare consumption levels between periods, and set special warning thresholds to receive timely information when electricity consumption exceeds the allowable threshold. This helps identify solutions for using electricity reasonably and economically, thereby reducing the risk of high electricity bills.
Using electricity economically not only brings direct financial benefits to each household but also helps protect the power system, reduce the risk of local overload, and ensure a stable power supply for the entire city during peak hot days.
