Opening of 2025 IEEE Asia Meeting on Environment and Electrical Engineering

17:19, 05/11/2025

The 2025 IEEE Asia Meeting on Environment and Electrical Engineering. (EEE.AM), hosted by the Electric Power University (EPU), opened on the morning of November 5 in Hanoi. Mr. Dinh The Phuc – Board Member of Vietnam Electricity attended and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) is one of the co-organizers of this year's conference.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Chau - President of EPU delivering opening speech

In his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Chau - President of EPU, emphasized that this conference is of great significance to Vietnam in the context of the whole country actively implementing international commitments and resolutions and policies of the Party on promoting science and technology, innovation, developing high-quality human resources, and modernizing the national energy infrastructure. With the main theme "Electrical Engineering in the Future: Trends and Innovations", EEE.AM 2025 is not only a place to update advanced scientific and technological achievements, but also a bridge to promote academic exchanges and strategic cooperation between universities, research institutes, management agencies, and enterprises.

Mr. Dinh The Phuc - Member of EVN’s Board Member making speech

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Dinh The Phuc said that Resolution 70-NQ/TW of the Politburo affirmed the strategic role of energy in ensuring national security, with the viewpoint that "energy must go one step ahead". At the same time, Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation identified: science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation are the top important breakthroughs, the main driving force for the development of modern production, new governance, socio-economic development, bringing the country to breakthrough development, and prosperity in the new era. On that basis, EVN also set 4 core goals to achieve in the coming time. Firstly, to build Vietnam Electricity into a strong economic group, with modern governance, effective production and business, preserving and developing state capital. Secondly, maintain the pivotal role in ensuring national electricity supply security and energy security; carry out large projects that are transformative for the country's energy sector; and carry out green and sustainable transformation. Thirdly, become a Group with modern technology, comprehensive digital transformation, providing electricity services to customers with increasingly high quality, focusing on customer satisfaction. Fourth, economic and technical indicators, electricity supply reliability, and the electricity access index are in the Top 3 of ASEAN.

In Vietnam, by the end of 2024, the total power capacity of the entire system will be 82.4GW, an increase of about 1.5GW compared to that in 2023. Of which: renewable energy sources (wind power, solar power) will be 21.4GW, accounting for 26%; coal-fired thermal power will be 26.7GW, accounting for 32%; hydropower will be 23.7GW, accounting for 29%. According to the adjusted Power Plan 8, the total installed capacity of the entire system will reach at least 183GW. Of which, renewable energy can account for up to 40-50% of the total installed capacity of the entire system, hydropower from 14-18%, coal-fired thermal power from 13-17%, gas turbines using domestic gas about 6%, LNG 9-12%, storage batteries 5-7%, flexible sources ~1%, pumped storage hydropower 1-2.5%, imported 4-5%. Thus, we can see a huge energy shift on the generation side of Vietnam's power system.

The EEE-AM 2025 conference gathered more than 27 scientific reports from prestigious speakers from France, Sweden, Canada, Vietnam, Japan, China, Korea, Portugal, and more than 400 scientific articles, of which 351 were selected to be presented at the conference. During the 3 days of the conference, the working sessions focused on discussing many important topics such as: Power sources and storage systems; Power grid systems and Smart grids; Artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation; Smart environment; Electronics, circuits, sensors and actuators; Materials for sustainable transition; Power electronics and power quality; Energy management, dispatching and electricity markets; Green transition; Safety and diagnostics; Measurement; Nuclear energy; Semiconductor materials and electronics; Education and training on regulations and standards in the energy sector.

Also on this occasion, on the sidelines of the conference, there is the International Exhibition on Electricity and Energy Technology (EL VIETNAM 2025) - a destination that brings together domestic and international businesses, research institutes, and organizations to visit and display technology, equipment, and services related to the fields of energy, electricity, and electronics.
