At the meeting, Mr. Daovong Phonekeo – Head of the Department of Energy Planning and Policy, Ministry of Energy and Mines (Laos) – Head of the Delegation highly appreciated the fruitful collaboration between Laos and Viet Nam in the field of energy. At the same time, he expected to learn from and refer to Vietnam’s experiences in developing small-scaled hydropower plants.
In response to the request from the Head of Laos Delegation, EVN Deputy General Director and representatives of relating departments shared Vietnam Electricity’s experiences in developing small-scaled hydropower projects (capacity of under 30 MW).
Mr. Ngo Son Hai stressed the importance of Government regulations and policies, and also shared EVN’s practical experiences in supporting investors in small-scaled hydropower projects.

At the meeting, the two parties also discussed about the possibility of power connection between Laos and Vietnam. EVN Deputy General Director Ngo Son Hai believed that system connection would be a trend of future, however, power system standards and technical specifications need to be agreed by the countries.
Regarding this concern, Mr. Tran Hong Ky – WB Energy Specialist asserted that WB would give support in the study of opportunities for power connection between Laos and Vietnam, which in turn would promote energy collaboration between the two countries.
On this occasion, Delegation from the Department of Energy Planning and Policy, Ministry of Energy and Mines (Laos) also visited Control Center of New Power System and Power Market under the management of National Load Dispatch Center (A0).
