Before the project implementation, there existed two 500 kV - 450 MVA transformers, one 220 kV - 125 MVA AT3 transformer, one 220 kV - 250 MVA transformer with the total capacity of 1,275 MVA in Da Nang 500 kV Substation.
In order to meet the load demand of Da Nang city from now until 2020, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) has invested VND 51.7 billion and assigned PTC2 on behalf of the Project Owner to implement replacement of 220 kV - 125 MVA AT3 transformer with 220 kV - 250 MVA transformer, raising capacity of the substation up to 1,400 MVA. The project of transformer replacement started on December 31, 2015.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung – Deputy Director of PTC2 said: The load demand of Da Nang during the past time has increased sharply. Whereas the load demand in 2010 was 237 MW, in 2015 was 500 MW and by 2020 the figure is estimated at 892 MW. The completion of this upgrading project for Da Nang 500 kV substation will contribute to safe, continuous power supply, enhancing the reliability and flexible operation of the power system to meet load requirements in the city as well as increase in transmission capacity of the North – South 500 kV transmission system, serving for the socio – economic development, national defense and security objectives of the country.
As known, during 2016 – 2017 period, PTC2 will continue to implement 220 kV transmission line projects such as: Hoa Khanh - Hai Chau and Da Nang - Ngu Hanh Son; two 220 kV substations Ngu Hanh Son and Hai Chau.
