EVN leaders check the construction progress of two transmission projects importing electricity from Laos

On 22 February 2022, in Nghe An, Mr. Nguyen Duc Cuong - Member of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Member Boards and Mr. Pham Hong Phuong - EVN Deputy General Director had a field check and meeting to review the progress of Tuong Duong 220kV substation, Nam Mo - Tuong Duong 220kV transmission line projects.

According to the report of the Central Power Project Management Board (CPMB, under the National Power Transmission Corporation) - the management and operation unit of  Tuong Duong 220kV substation project, the substation has a capacity of 2x250MVA and the connection line includes 02 220kV branch circuits with 03 foundation positions. The project commenced on 12 August 2021 and is expected to be energized in March 2022.

The project is implemented in the EPC form. Regarding the construction progress, the substation construction has basically completed the construction of important items such as transformer foundation, resistance, equipment support foundation, 220kV and 110kV gate poles, currently installing the primary equipment on the 110kV side. The connection line part has been finished foundation molding in 3/3 positions, pole erecting in 2/3 positions. Currently, CPMB is managing and striving to complete the testing and technical acceptance before 31 March 2022.

Nam Mo - Tuong Duong 220kV transmission line project is managed and operated by Power Project Management Board 1 (under EVN). The project has an investment and construction scale of about 74.4km of a dual-circuit 220kV transmission line from the Vietnam - Laos border to Tuong Duong 220kV substation. The project commenced on 28 November 2021 and is expected to be completed in June 2022.

Up to now, the project has completed compensation and resettlement supporting payment for 145/145 foundation positions (reaching 100%); The resettlement supporting plan in the Ky Son district corridor has been entirely approved and in Tuong Duong district reaches 80%.

Regarding the construction progress, the foundation excavation reached 69/145 positions; steel-reinforcement installation reached 47/145 positions. Currently, the bidding packages have transferred equipment and human resources to carry out the erection of steel poles. It is expected to complete supplying 100% of steel poles in March 2022 to meet the construction schedule of the project.

When put into operation, these works will transmit the capacity of many hydropower plants in the Nam Mo river basin in Laos’ territory to Vietnam with a total capacity of 850MW. Along with an important role in importing electricity to Vietnam, the projects actualize the bilateral commitments in the energy development field and implement the Power Purchase Agreement were signed on 4 January 2020 between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Laos.
