The company has impounded water in the reservoir to a level reaching approximately the full supply level of 117m, ready for electricity generation in the dry season in 2021 and supplying water for the winter-spring cultivation in the Northern delta and midlands areas.
In 2020, the company has taken many measures to ensure the plant operation in a safe and stable manner, efficiently exploiting the water resource for electricity generation.
Regarding the electricity generation, in early 2020, due to effects of droughts in 2019, water levels of reservoirs in the Da river basin were very low. On January 01, 2020, the water level of Hoa Binh reservoir was only 102 m (15 m lower than the full supply level, corresponding to an output shortage of about 700 million kWh). The weather changed in an extreme way, main season floods were small, the total amount of water flow in the reservoir was very low; large floods came late (late September 2020) when the reservoir had already impounded water at a high level, causing many difficulties for reservoir operation. However, the company has cooperated closely with functional agencies to actively calculate, regulate water and prevent floods with the aim of ensuring safety for downstream areas and the power plant, ensuring high electricity generation output when floods came. Notably, the total output in the first 8 months of 2020 was only 5,048 billion kWh, but in September and October 2020 alone it reached 2,433 billion kWh.
As for maintenance, the company has worked closely with EVN Power Service Center (EVNPSC) to complete the entire maintenance plan for all power units, ensuring progress, quality, improving the reliability and availability factor. Thanks to that, the power plant has brought into full play its power generation capacity when the hydrological conditions became favorable, making an important contribution to the completion of the electricity output plan.
It is expected that by the end of 2020, the company's electricity generation output will be about 8.49 billion kWh, exceeding 2.8% of the plan. The early completion of the 2020 electricity output plan of Hoa Binh Hydropower Company has celebrated the 66th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Vietnam's Power Sector (December 21, 1954 - December 21, 2020) in a very practical way.
