Power supplied to remote villages of Quang Nam province

In Quang Nam, power has been supplied to all communes excluding households in mountainous areas due to the complicated topography, difficult transport conditions. Quang Nam Provincial Government has arranged its population to ensure groups with 30 or more households for facilitating power supply at the request from the Viet Nam Electricity.

In the winter of 2018, an additional number of 650 ethnic minority households in remote villages of 6 mountainous communes in Bac Tra My district, Quang Nam province are supplied power. In order to supply power from the national grid to households of ethnic households of Cor and Ca Dong here, the Power sector has invested to build 18km of medium-voltage transmission lines, over 21km of low-voltage transmission lines, 15 substations with total investment capital of over VND 36.5 billion. It is estimated that the Sector has invested an average of over VND 56 million to supply power to each household. It is obvious that the investment rate in expanding power supply in ethnic minority areas of Quang Nam province is very large.

Supply power from the national grid to mountainous villages of Quang Nam province is a difficult and arduous journey. After the mountain landslide event in Khe Chu village, mountainous district of Nam Tra My in the end of 2017, staffs and employees of the Sector had to climb mountains and cross streams, manually transport electric poles. The construction of the poles is miserably difficult, eventually power was supplied to the villages in a jubilant atmosphere of people here.

The project on rural power supply in Quang Nam province for the period of 2013-2020 assigned by Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee to the Department of Industry and Trade for implementing has brought practical outcomes. Particularly, the power supply to Ch’Om commune, Tay Giang district is considered a great effort made by the Sector. With a total investment capital of VND 33 billion, the project includes the construction of a 22km medium-voltage line and over 3km of low-voltage line, 2 75kVA substations and 108 meters, supplying power to 185 households of Co Tu ethnic minority.

There is also a Project of power supply to the mountainous district of Nam Tra My with a total investment of VND 60 billion, supplying power to nearly 1,300 households of Cor, Ca Dong ethnic households. The work crosses 10 mountainous communes in the area of Nam Tra My district. Mr. Luu Duc Loi, Deputy Director of Quang Nam Power Company said that for three mountainous districts, supply power from the National grid to the villages of Tay Giang, Nam Tra My and Bac Tra My faced many difficulties, the Central Power Corporation had invested more than VND 120 billion in supply power to serve thousands of ethnic minority households.

“With the complicated mountainous topography, the construction and installation process faced great obstacles in traffic, site clearance, compensation of plants and line corridors. Quang Nam Power Company has cooperated with the local authorities to handle difficulties, completed all the works, energized power, safely supplied power for the people, stably operated the system. Ch’Om is the last commune in the country with 100% of households supplied power, raising the percentage of households supplied power in Quang Nam province to 99%,” said Mr. Luu Duc Loi.
