On 12 June in Hanoi, Dang Hoang An, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), held talks with a delegation led by Mr. Matt Western, UK Trade Envoy and Member of Parliament, during their visit to EVN.

During the meeting, the UK delegation discussed potential financial support for power grid development and renewable energy projects through financing mechanisms provided by UK Export Finance (UKEF). The delegation also shared the expertise, technological capabilities, and cooperation potential of UK companies in modern power grids, electricity transmission, and renewable energy. Among them, GE Vernova has been working with EVN to exchange knowledge and explore applications of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission technology.
Chairman Dang Hoang An welcomed the United Kingdom's continued interest and cooperation proposals. He noted that, as Vietnam's electricity demand continues to grow in line with the country's socio-economic development, identifying appropriate technological and financing solutions for power system development has become increasingly important, particularly for large-scale transmission projects and the integration of renewable energy sources.
The EVN Chairman expressed his hope that both sides would continue to make effective use of the existing cooperation frameworks between EVN and UK partners, particularly in the areas of clean energy, green grid development, and collaboration with GE Vernova on research and knowledge sharing related to HVDC technology.
Both sides agreed to maintain close communication through their respective technical focal points to further explore concrete cooperation opportunities, taking into account Vietnam's power system development needs, the prevailing regulatory framework, and the respective strengths of UK partners.
