On March 10, within the framework of the Energy that Changes the World Conference organized by GE Vernova (USA) in Hanoi, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and GE Vernova signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation opportunities in the development of power transmission infrastructure in Vietnam.

The conference was attended by Mr. Le Manh Hung – Acting Minister of Industry and Trade, along with more than 400 senior leaders from government agencies, businesses, and partners within the regional energy ecosystem.

EVN President and CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan represented EVN in signing the MoU with GE Vernova.

According to the agreement, the two sides will collaborate to study the potential application of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission technology. This technology is gaining increasing attention as Vietnam’s power system needs to strengthen transmission capacity to meet rapidly growing electricity demand and support the integration of a larger share of clean energy sources.

The Energy that Changes the World Conference, organized by GE Vernova, focused on discussing solutions to accelerate Vietnam’s energy transition in the new stage of development.

Speaking at the conference, Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung noted that Vietnam is accelerating its energy transition while also ensuring sufficient electricity supply to support double-digit economic growth. Attracting advanced technologies and international resources, therefore, plays a critical role in realizing the country’s sustainable energy development goals.

GE Vernova is currently providing technological solutions for several large-scale LNG power projects in Vietnam, including Quynh Lap, Hai Phong LNG, and Quang Trach II. Among these, the Quang Trach II LNG Power Plant, developed by EVN, is expected to be commissioned in 2030.
