On the afternoon of July 27 in Hanoi, EVN President & CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan and Vinachem President & CEO Nguyen Huu Tu co-chaired a working session to discuss potential areas of cooperation in battery energy storage systems.

Speaking at the meeting, EVN President & CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan noted that demand for energy storage systems will continue to grow as baseload power projects require long investment lead times while the share of renewable energy in the generation mix continues to increase. The development of BESS will enhance the utilization of renewable energy resources and support the safe and efficient operation of the national power system.

According to Mr. Tuan, EVN is currently studying investments in BESS projects in several locations across northern Vietnam. However, to ensure sustainable development, it is essential to gradually master core technologies—particularly BESS control, management, and operation systems—in order to improve operational efficiency, enhance safety, and reduce investment costs.

He emphasized that both EVN and Vinachem possess complementary strengths and should leverage their respective expertise to establish concrete areas of cooperation. EVN will designate dedicated focal points to work with Vinachem in studying and proposing collaborative initiatives, with the goal of forming joint working groups to implement projects under a clear roadmap and timeline.

For his part, Vinachem President & CEO Nguyen Huu Tu said the meeting provided an opportunity for the two corporations to explore cooperation based on their respective strengths, with the shared objective of researching and developing products capable of meeting the electricity sector's needs while contributing to the growth of Vietnam's energy industry.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the leaders of both corporations agreed to assign their respective technical teams to continue discussions, conduct joint research, and develop a detailed cooperation roadmap to capitalize on each organization's capabilities in the research, development, and application of energy storage technologies in the coming years.
