On the afternoon of December 4th in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, President and CEO of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), hosted a meeting with Mr. Toshiharu Sasaki, President and CEO of Japan International Nuclear Energy Development Co., Ltd. (JINED), to discuss matters concerning the development of nuclear power plants in Vietnam.

EVN’s Vice President, Mr. Nguyen Tai Anh, and representatives from various specialized departments attended the meeting.

On the JINED side, the delegation included Mr. Takeshi Makigami, Executive Director and Chief Representative of JINED in Vietnam.

During the meeting, Mr. Toshiharu Sasaki provided an overview of Japan’s nuclear power industry, outlining the standards for building and operating nuclear power plants, as well as Japan’s government-backed financial support policies for countries embarking on nuclear energy development.

Given Vietnam’s recent government directive to reconsider the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project, JINED proposed various forms of support for Vietnam. These included assistance in drafting policies and legal frameworks, workforce training, information sharing, organization study tours, working delegations, and promoting public communication about nuclear energy.

Acknowledging these proposals, EVN’s President and CEO, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, expressed gratitude for the valuable insights and stated that EVN would consider incorporating these suggestions into recommendations for higher authorities. Additionally, he emphasized EVN's hope for continued collaboration with JINED in areas such as technology, environmental safety management, engineering, and electricity pricing structures.

Founded in 2010, JINED comprises 13 shareholders, including Japanese electric utilities and corporations specializing in nuclear energy equipment and technology.
