On the morning of 4 February, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, in collaboration with Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, organized the 25th Ton Duc Thang Award Ceremony, honoring 11 outstanding engineers and workers across various fields.

As one of the award recipients in 2025, Mr. Tran Phuong Kiet has been recognized for numerous research projects and initiatives addressing key challenges in the power sector, including occupational safety, efficient grid operation and management, and proactive risk prevention. A notable project is the “Research and application of integrated IoT technology in smart safety helmets and smart glasses,” which was accepted and approved at the corporation level in 2024. The initiative is estimated to generate benefits of over VND 5.6 billion. It enables real-time display of procedures and safety warnings directly on protective equipment, while transmitting on-site images and data to a central system for remote monitoring and support. This contributes to reducing occupational accidents, improving productivity and professionalism, and laying the foundation for smart field management applications within the Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation.

Another initiative, “Casting concrete load blocks for testing in safety inspection of equipment with strict safety requirements,” recognized at the company level in 2015, has delivered practical effectiveness in safety inspections of equipment with strict safety requirements of the company, ensuring safe equipment operation and generating estimated savings of VND 450 million per year. The initiative “Standardized design for guy-wire covers to warn pedestrians and vehicles,” recognized at the company level in 2016, has helped protect power line safety corridors, reduce accidents for people and vehicles, and deliver annual economic benefits of approximately VND 285 million.

Especially, system-level initiatives such as the “Safety operations handbook” (2021) and the “Fire prevention, fighting and rescue operations handbook” (2022), recognized at the corporation level, have helped standardize procedures and enhance the capabilities of safety and fire prevention personnel across the corporation, reducing errors and violations, with estimated benefits of VND 275 million and VND 210 million per year, respectively. Additionally, the solution “Installation of safe electrical sockets for domestic water pumping systems integrated with float switches” (recognized at the corporation level in 2023) has eliminated electric shock risks and extended the lifespan of equipment used across affiliated units, generating estimated savings of VND 180 million annually.

The Ton Duc Thang Award 2025, recognizing engineers and workers like Mr. Tran Phuong Kiet, serves as a strong motivation for the continued expansion of innovation movements, contributing to the sustainable development of the Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation and the broader power sector, as well as the city’s socio-economic growth.
