Worker Tran Van Thuan: Keeping profession “fire” alive through solidarity and creativity

Innovations paired with safety and time-saving

Since 2020, he and his colleagues have implemented seven technical innovation initiatives that help improve productivity and reduce occupational safety risks. All of these are now widely applied at the Corporation/Company level. Among them, the initiative he is most proud of is the “Tool for positioning wire ends to replace the single-phase circuit breaker of damaged electric meters,” which was recognized as an innovation at Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation in 2023.

Tool for positioning wire ends when replacing damaged circuit breakers helps shorten operation time to one-third of what it used to be and ensures almost 100% safety for electrical workers.

In addition to the innovations mentioned above, Tran Van Thuan and his colleagues have developed many other highly effective initiatives, such as “Improvement and completion of the switching and connection system supplying power from generators” (recognized at the Corporation level in 2022); “Documentation set on procedures for performing skill-testing tasks for distribution lines and substations” (Corporation-level innovation in 2023); “Support frame for generator power cables” (Company-level innovation in 2024); “Handling bee nests on power lines and electrical equipment without de-energization” (Company-level innovation in 2024); “Design and fabrication of medium-voltage disconnect switch operating rods for hot-line work” (Corporation-level innovation in 2024); “Tool set for locking low-voltage circuit breaker operating rods to prevent incorrect operation and electrical accidents” (Company-level innovation in 2025), and so on. A notable strength of these initiatives is that they all help reduce outage time or allow work to be performed on live lines, minimizing impacts on materials and equipment, while shortening operational time and enhancing safety for electrical workers in the field.
