The Quang Ninh Thermal Power Plant (1,200MW) is expected to generate 4,165 million kWh during the dry season, accounting for more than 50% of its total planned output for 2025 (7,796 million kWh). According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Quang Ninh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company, the company has developed monthly and annual operation plans for 2025, incorporating various synchronized solutions and focusing on implementing technical measures to reduce heat rate, minimize incidents, prepare spare parts, and improve the efficiency of key equipment systems.
In which, the company optimized maintenance time by carrying out minor repairs and maintenance on Units 1 and 2 during the recent Lunar New Year holiday (from late January 2025 to early February 2025).
Also in Quang Ninh province, Uong Bi Thermal Power Company plans to produce 4,203 million kWh in 2025, with 2,282 million kWh to be generated during the dry season. According to Mr. Do Trung Kien, Director of Uong Bi Thermal Power Company, the company has carried out periodic maintenance on its generating units, including upgrading the control system, improving the boilers, and comprehensively inspecting the turbine system to prepare for high operational demand.
Especially, to ensure a stable and sufficient coal supply for power generation, the companies have closely coordinated with coal suppliers to secure coal supply in line with production plans and maintain reasonable stock levels. For instance, Uong Bi Thermal Power Plant consistently keeps at least 80,000 tons of coal in storage, while Quang Ninh Thermal Power Plant proactively maintains a minimum inventory of 140,000 tons during peak periods to ensure uninterrupted production.
In the southern region, Duyen Hai Thermal Power Company—which operates the Duyen Hai 1, Duyen Hai 3, and Duyen Hai 3 Expansion power plants—is actively implementing measures to ensure continuous operation. As of February 9, 2025, the total electricity output of all three plants reached 1,447 million kWh, fulfilling 12.82% of the planned production for the six-month dry season and 7.38% of the annual production target assigned by MOIT for 2025.
Regarding maintenance and repairs, from the beginning of 2025 until now, Duyen Hai Thermal Power Company has taken advantage of scheduled downtime during the Lunar New Year holiday and low-demand periods to conduct maintenance on generating units and address existing issues to minimize breakdowns during peak dry-season operations. At the same time, the company has proactively balanced coal demand, signed coal supply contracts, and maintained optimal inventory levels to ensure uninterrupted operation.

The increasing electricity demand, coupled with unpredictable climate patterns, presents significant challenges for power supply operations in 2025. Therefore, ensuring reliability and maintaining the stable operation of thermal power units to meet future load demands effectively remains a key priority that Power Generation Corporation 1 continues to make efforts to fulfill.
On February 18, 2025, Power Generation Corporation 1 (EVNGENCO1) issued Decision No. 05/QD-HDTV on establishing the Steering Committee for Power Supply Assurance in 2025.
