According to reports of Power Corporations under EVN, at present, the medium and low voltage power grids in the Northern provinces and big cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are fully capable of absorbing rooftop PV power capacity.
In the South, according to the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC), at present 2,532 projects have registered for grid connection, however have not been put into commercial operation (with a total capacity of more than 1,496 MWp). Of which, 240 projects with a total capacity of 229 MWp have exceeded the integration capacity of the power grid, mainly concentrated in Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and Tay Ninh provinces.
The Central Power Corporation publicizes information on grid connection and integration of solar PV capacity in each Power Company.
In the service area of the Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC), rooftop PV power projects have thrived and concentrated in the provinces of Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and 4 Central Highlands provinces (Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Kon Tum, Gia Lai), posing a threat to the medium voltage grid. Currently, there are 519 projects with a total capacity of 414.2 MWp in these provinces being registered for grid connection but not being integrated into the grid. In other provinces and cities under the management of EVNCPC, the rooftop PV power integration capacity of the medium voltage power grid is still guaranteed.
In the spirit of granting maximum support for investors, EVN has requested the Power Corporations to widely disseminate information to facilitate customers’ access and searching. In particular, information on grid connection and rooftop PV power integration capacity of every transmission line and substation is made available and transparent on the websites of power companies and customer care websites of Power Corporations.
EVN has directed Power Corporations / Power Companies to speed up the implementation progress of projects of rehabilitating and upgrading medium voltage power grids in full - loaded and over - loaded areas by 2020; creating favorable conditions and maximum incentive for investors to participate in rooftop PV power development without making the 110 kV power grid overloaded. At the same time, the Power Corporations are requested to study and propose additional investment projects to upgrade power grids in the areas where rooftop PV power projects will be connected to and integrated into in the coming years.
In order to support investors, EVN has consecutively submitted recommendations to the Ministry of Industry and Trade in order to remove and have guidance for solving obstacles in the rooftop PV power development.
As of August 23, 2020: More than 45,490 rooftop PV power projects all over the country have signed power purchase agreements with EVN and been integrated into the power grid, with a total capacity of 1,038 MW.
