On 28 March 2026, in Nghe An, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), in coordination with the Northern Power Projects Management Board (NPMB) and related units, held a ceremony to commence construction of the Quynh Luu 500kV Substation and connection line project.
This is a special-grade energy work, with EVNNPT as the investor, NPMB acting as the project management representative, and Power Transmission Company No. 1 responsible for operation. The project is being built in the communes of Quynh Tam, Quynh Son, and Quynh Van (Nghe An province).
According to the design, the project involves the construction of a new 500kV substation with the installation of one 500kV-900MVA transformer and two 500kV-450MVA transformers. The 500kV side includes 10 bays (7 bays installed in this phase, with 3 reserved and a busbar sectional bay); the 220kV side includes 21 bays (9 bays installed in this phase, with 12 reserved); the 110kV side reserves land for future construction.

The connection section includes: a 2-circuit 500kV line over 0.65km long connecting to pole 464 of the Quang Trach – Quynh Luu 500kV line; a double circuit 500kV line nearly 0.8km long connecting to pole 01 of the Quynh Luu – Thanh Hoa 500kV line; along with a 4-circuit 220kV line nearly 10km long connecting to the existing Nghi Son – Quynh Luu 220kV line.
The project, targeted for completion in Q4 2026, will contribute to ensuring a safe and reliable power supply for Nghe An province and the surrounding area. It will enhance transmission capacity, improve system stability, and reduce power losses, thereby improving the production and business efficiency of EVN and EVNNPT.
