Accordingly, the EVN Board of Directors approved the investment project for the Lao Cai-Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line, which will be located and routed in Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc provinces. The starting point is the Pootich arm of the Lao Cai 500kV substation, and the endpoint is the Pootich arm of the Vinh Yen 500kV substation. The length of the line is about 229.3km.

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) is the project investor, and Power Project Management Board 1 (EVNPMB1) is the investor representative.

The organization that prepares the Feasibility Study Report for construction investment, construction survey, and basic engineering consultancy: Joint Venture of Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 and Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 4.

The total investment of the project is more than VND 7,410 billion. The project belongs to Group A, energy industry works, at a special level. The life span of the main works according to the design is at least 40 years.

The project is invested in construction to transmit the capacity of hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national power system; create strong links between regions in the power system, increase the ability to operate safely and stably for the national power system; reduce power loss in the transmission grid, increase the efficiency of the Group's electricity production and business; reserve for electricity import demand from China.

Regarding project implementation progress: According to Decision No. 1274/QD-TTg dated October 26, 2024, of the Prime Minister, the project is expected to commence in December 2025 in 06 months, striving to complete energization and put the project into use in May 2026. EVN strives to commence in February 2025, energize no later than September 1, 2025, and complete the investment project in the first quarter of 2026.
