On the afternoon of April 13 in Hanoi, Mr. Dang Hoang An – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) – received and held a working meeting with Mr. Bhargav Dasgupta – Vice President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The two sides discussed several cooperation orientations aimed at expanding access to financing and promoting the development of sustainable energy infrastructure in Vietnam.

EVN and ADB discuss investment needs for key power projects towards sustainable energy development

According to EVN Chairman Dang Hoang An, in addition to ensuring sufficient electricity supply for socio-economic growth, Vietnam’s power sector must also meet the requirements of transitioning toward greener, cleaner, and more sustainable energy, aiming for net-zero emissions. Investment demand in the coming period will be substantial, spanning various areas such as the development of new power sources, expansion of existing hydropower plants, promotion of energy storage solutions, and strengthening of domestic and regional grid interconnections.

EVN expressed its expectation that international financial institutions, including ADB, would continue to explore more flexible and suitable support mechanisms tailored to the specific characteristics of energy project implementation, while helping to streamline intermediary procedures and improve access to capital for enterprises such as EVN.

On the ADB side, Mr. Bhargav Dasgupta highly appreciated EVN’s role in ensuring electricity supply for Vietnam’s socio-economic development and reaffirmed ADB’s interest and readiness to accompany Vietnam in developing modern, sustainable, and resilient energy infrastructure.

ADB also indicated that it will continue to study cooperation approaches that better align with the practical needs of Vietnam’s power sector, not only in terms of financing but also as a connector to mobilize additional financial resources.

Both sides agreed to maintain close communication in the coming period and tasked their respective technical focal points with further clarifying investment needs, financing arrangements, and priority areas, thereby gradually concretizing cooperation initiatives.
