The project has created jobs for over 250 workers and is expected to contribute approximately VND 600 billion annually to the state budget, thereby helping to ensure long-term economic stability for the region.

The Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant is one of the key projects in Ha Tinh Province, with a total investment of up to USD 2.2 billion under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model. This is a joint project between Japan and South Korea, in which 60% of the shares are held by Japanese companies led by Mitsubishi Group, and 40% by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).

The project’s financing was arranged by JBIC, KEXIM, and several Japanese commercial banks. This broad cooperation reflects strong confidence from the international community in Vietnam’s energy sector and its development potential.

Once operational, the project will provide stable employment for more than 250 staff working at the plant and is expected to contribute around VND 600 billion annually to the state budget, thereby supporting long-term economic stability in the region. The plant will also play a crucial role in ensuring a stable power supply, particularly in addressing electricity shortages in northern Vietnam, with a capacity to meet approximately 3.3% of the country’s total electricity demand.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long emphasized that this is a project of special importance, included in the list of national key energy projects. Throughout its implementation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade closely coordinated with investors and local authorities to promptly resolve difficulties and ensure project progress.

“The Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to accompany the Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant and Ha Tinh Province in its operation, ensuring safety and stability, thereby contributing to local socio-economic development and strengthening national energy security,” Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long stressed.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Phan Thien Dinh, Chairman of the Ha Tinh People’s Committee, affirmed that the completion and commissioning of the Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant marks an important milestone, reinforcing the role of Vung Ang Economic Zone and Ha Tinh Province as a major energy hub.
