Successfully fulfill 'dual mission' of power supply while protecting environment

This was one of the directives given by the President and CEO of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Nguyen Anh Tuan, at a working session between the EVN delegation and Power Generation Corporation No. 2 (EVNGENCO2) on environmental issues at thermal power plants, on January 19th, in Can Tho City.

The EVN delegation also included Board Member Dinh The Phuc, Vice President Pham Le Phu, and representatives from various functional departments.

Representing EVNGENCO2 were Chairman of the Member Board Tran Phu Thai, along with the Board of Directors, the Board of General Directors, the Supervisory Board, the Office, the functional departments of the Corporation, and representatives from member units.

Speaking at the meeting, President and CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan instructed EVNGENCO2 to strictly comply with environmental protection laws and seriously implement the dual task of power supply and environmental protection. Immediately after the meeting, the Corporation needs to implement and thoroughly explain environmental work, review the automatic monitoring system, monitor the environment, address issues, and ensure transparency in reporting. Units within the Corporation should strive to operate at optimal levels, research solutions to meet standards, develop repair plans, and conduct inspections and assessments of specific systems and equipment according to manufacturer recommendations, ensuring energy supply and bringing key projects into operation on schedule.

During the meeting, EVNGENCO2 reported to the working group on the internal review of environmental permit dossiers for projects/works/facilities of units subject to environmental dossier procedures as stipulated in Articles 39 and 49 of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020.

In 2026, EVNGENCO2 is urgently implementing procedures for projects to renovate and upgrade the exhaust gas treatment systems of thermal power plants within EVNGENCO2, such as: upgrading the exhaust gas treatment system of Hai Phong Thermal Power Plants 1&2; renovating and upgrading the exhaust gas treatment system of line 2 of Pha Lai Thermal Power Joint Stock Company; renovating and upgrading the exhaust gas treatment systems of the units of O Mon I Thermal Power Plant within the scope of the project to convert fuel for O Mon I Thermal Power Plant using gas from Block B.
