In July 2022, the prolonged scorching sun heat in the North made the North's power consumption increase very sharply, causing the power grid to operate at full load, overload many times and the power generation source also faced difficulties due to a number of thermal power plants encountering problems. Power consumption in the North set a new record at noon of July 18, 2022, with a consumption capacity of up to 22,800MW - about 1,900MW higher than the peak of the North in 2021.
Power production of the whole system in July 2022 reached 24.55 billion kWh; accumulated power for 7 months reached 158.02 billion kWh, up 4.2% over the same period, in which the ratio of mobilizing some types of power sources to the total power production of the whole system is as follows:
+ Hydropower output reached 52.58 billion kWh, accounting for 33.3%.
+ Coal thermal power reached 63.94 billion kWh, accounting for 40.5.
+ Gas turbines reached 17.39 billion kWh, accounting for 11%.
+ Renewable energy reached 22.06 billion kWh, accounting for 14% (of which solar power reaching 16.54 billion kWh, wind power reaching 5.24 billion kWh).
+ Imported power reached 1.62 billion kWh, accounting for 1%.
In the first 7 months of 2022, the power has been produced by EVN and Power Generation Corporations (including joint stock companies) reached 72.94 billion kWh, accounting for 46.16% of the power production of the whole system. Since the beginning of the year, due to the sudden increase in the price of input fuels (coal, oil, gas) for power production, EVN's financial situation is still facing many difficulties.
Construction investment:
- Regarding the power grid: In the first 7 months of 2022, EVN and its units have commenced 75 projects and completed energizing and putting into operation 57 power grid projects from 110kV to 500kV (including 04 500kV projects, 08 projects) 220kV and 45 110kV projects). In which, the technical route energization of the 500kV transmission line, circuit 3 of Vung Ang - Quang Trach, has been performed and a number of substations put into operation such as Chu Se 220kV substation; Lao Cai 2 110kV substation and its branch; Kim Dong 2 110kV transmission line and substation; installed 2 substations Binh Vang, Ky Son 110kV ones; a 110kV substation and connection in Phu Bai 2 Industrial Park; installed 2 110kV Dak Song substations, and so on.
- Regarding the power source: The construction of the expanded Ialy Hydropower Plant project items basically met and overfulfilled the set plan. However, the site clearance of some key projects (Quang Trach Power Center Infrastructure project, Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant, Phuoc Thai 2 & 3 Solar Power Plants, etc.) are still facing many difficulties, problems that have not been completely resolved, showing the risk of affecting the implementation progress, etc.
Business and Customer Services: By the end of July 2022, the rate of customers paying electricity bills in non-cash form has reached 90.39%; the rate of electricity bill payment in non-cash form throughout EVN reached 97.15%.
Bidding: By the end of July 2022, EVN has organized 8,116 bidding packages, of which 6,061 packages were bid online (accounting for 74.68% of the total number of bidding packages).
Digital transformation: the units in the whole EVN have completed 83% of the plan to implement the community work in the two years of 2021-2022, of which some sections have been completed with a high rate such as internal administration (94.7%), sales and customer service (97%).
Some targets and tasks of EVN in August 2022
The expected average power consumption of the whole system is 799.4 million kWh/day (up 14.8% over the same period), the largest load capacity is estimated at 44,545MW.
Regarding operational objectives of the power system in August 2022: Continuing to ensure safe power production and supply, continuously serving the country's socio-economic development and people's daily activities; optimizing operation of the power system on the principle of ensuring safe operation, while gradually reducing EVN's financial difficulties.
Regarding power source mobilization: Maximizing the mobilization of hydropower plants that are having to discharge water (or are at risk of discharge) at the request of the Central and local Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, and at the same time updating the hydrological forecast to work out a suitable regulation plan; coal-fired power, gas turbine mobilized according to the demand of system and hydro-thermal power optimization; oil thermal power reserve.
Regarding construction investment: Continuing to focus on construction projects of Ialy Hydropower Plant Extension, Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant, Phuoc Thai 2 & 3 Solar Power Plants.
Regarding the power grid: Focusing on preparing for the commencement of important projects (Vinh Yen 500kV substation; Nghi Son EZ 220kV substation, Pac Ma 220kV substation and Pac Ma - Muong Te 220kV transmission line) and projects planned to be energized in 2022 (line connection of Bac Quang 220kV substation; increasing capacity of O Mon 500kV substation; Yen My, Duy Xuyen, Cam Ranh) 220kV substations, etc.
In order to reduce difficulties in power system operation and reduce the risk of electrical incidents due to sudden increase in power demand - especially in the North, Vietnam Electricity continues to advise people, offices and production units to pay attention to using electricity safely and economically, especially during peak hours at noon and at evening (noon from 11:30 to 14:30, evening from 20:00 to 23:00); At the same time, pay attention to rational use of air conditioners (set at 26-27 degrees or higher, used in combination with electric fans) and it is advisable not to use many electrical appliances with large capacity simultaneously, and so on.
